Throughout the course and even still now, I am a bit baffled and puzzled by the current state of ethics regarding social media. Sometimes I simply feel that the ethical guidelines and issues surrounding this new area of journalism are a bit hazy and wish organizations would make more of an effort to clarify rather than attempt to clarify by being vague.
Our course has assisted me in realizing that while everyone makes mistakes, we can strive to be better by forming our own personal guidelines to adjust ourselves and keep our head on straight. I thought it was both useful and helpful to breakdown our own personal views based on the ethical models presented to us in the books. These theories (like the golden mean) provides clarity on a personal level for how we should approach our own ethics. It was enlightening to breakdown our own ethics that way and helped us evaluate our core beliefs. It was also informative to have the chance to thoroughly research and read the various guidelines presented by news organizations, I now feel more informed about the general guidelines of most news places.
